What will my child do at xcite?
At the beginning of the week, the children will play lots of
introductory games and take part in fun warm - ups, so that they get to know each other
and feel comfortable. During the day the children will undertake drama and dance warm-ups
which mainly comprise of fun games and activities. They then take part in devising and
rehearsing a final performance to show to the parents. The emphasis at this point is on
having fun and being creative, we like the children to work hard while having fun but they
are not put under pressure. We also ask the children to make props, find costumes, create
sets and draw posters, so that the final product is all their own work. We find that the
nature of working on something creative together, allows the children to have a focus and
means they build good relationships and work well with others. The emphasis at Xcite is
for children to be involved in decision-making wherever possible, they are asked for
feed-back and suggestions and devise the rules, which we work from. These are based around
everyone having fun, so that the children can see how their behaviour and
actions can affect others. Having fun is also one of the main aims at Xcite,
as well as creating a project we spend a great deal of time playing games, doing creative
activities like drawing on t-shirts, basic cookery etc and giving the children
(particularly the younger members) time to play freely. Through this type of activity and
environment the children develop communication skills, self-esteem, the ability to work in
groups, independence, belief in their own ideas and confidence. During the day the
children stop for lunch (a packed lunch) and break snacks. We try to encourage healthy
food and snacks, so that the children become aware of their health. |
